Dear Friend in Yoga:

Welcome to the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy Training at YogaLife Institute - a uniquely powerful perspective on health and healing. We have been a destination for yoga lifestyle education for more than 20 years now, and in many ways, the transformational process of yoga therapy is at the heart of everything that we teach.

Our program is designed differently, with roots that started with my training at the Yoga Institute of Mumbai, India, integrated during my PhD studies in Yoga Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies and eventually grew into a full-scale training program. As you will soon learn, we are, in many ways, a world apart from other yoga therapy programs.

Our training is not for everyone. Is it the right program for you? We are here to help you answer that question. Please watch my video and then read on. Questions are welcome!

On behalf of our entire team, we look forward to helping you expand your knowledge and skillset and support your journey from Yoga Teacher to Yoga Therapist

How & Why Our Classical Lineage & Modern Innovation Methods Deliver a Unique Yoga Therapy Training Experience.

The Purpose: Founder Bob Butera’s classical lineage is fused with wisdom with modern lifestyle innovations, developed during the 20 years he has been training yoga teachers. Bob’s heritage and wisdom, and years of experience, when combined with Kristen’s innovative somatic approach to adaptive yoga practices produces profound differences from other Yoga Therapy Trainings.

The YogaLife Institute program shifts the current cultural healthcare perspective from a passive disease-driven model to a more proactive model; where the client is continually engaging in the process of restoring or maintaining health. In the YogaLife Institute Model, the Yoga Therapist works with medical and healing professionals, augmenting the patient care plan with lifestyle interventions, stress management tools, movement, breathing and other practices.

In addition to Bob & Kristen Butera, the Comprehensive Yoga therapy teaching team are all practicing yoga therapists that bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the program. Everyone who teaches in the program has both designed parts of as well as taken the program. Students will appreciate having a variety of perspectives, as well as a clear and unified vision of yoga therapy.

Erin Byron, MA, and co-creator of the program brings her yoga teaching expertise, counseling and clinical skills. Staffan Elgelid, PhD offers insights from his background as Physical Therapist and Somatic Education expert. Jen Hilbert, MA marries her background in Neuroscience with her yoga teaching experience. Erika Tenenbaum & Libby Piper both ERYT500's & C-IAYT's their many years of training yoga teachers and the specializations they have developed on the way.

The Training Style: 6 Reasons Why It’s So Effective

Comprehensive Yoga Therapy empowers people to explore the deeper lifestyle issues that lie at the root of many modern disease conditions. The program shifts the current cultural healthcare perspective from a passive disease-driven model to a more proactive model where the Yoga Therapist and their clients are continually engaged in the process of restoring or maintaining physical, mental, emotional or spiritual health.

In this program, Yoga Therapists learn how to guide clients using a holistic perspective that encompasses all of the transformative perspectives and practices of Yoga. Each aspect of the human experience is viewed as having the potential to be a source of healing and inspiration and is explored and mastered during the duration of the program.

This is not a one-size fits all program. Comprehensive Yoga emphasizes that addressing individual needs and goals is key. Two people with the same disease condition might walk on completely different pathways to healing. CYT focuses on creating powerful mind/body spirit/connections, and yoga therapists draw from a large database of practice experience to create personalized practice and self care protocols for their clients.

Comprehensive Yoga Therapy does not look to replace medical modalities, the focus is on helping clients to augment their current care model with a holistic focus that embraces the many different and interrelated levels on which health and healing can occur.

In this model, the Yoga Therapist works with medical and healing professionals, augmenting the patient care plan with lifestyle interventions, stress management tools, movement, breathing, visualization, nutrition, changes of habitual thought patterns and other healthy lifestyle practices.

While a human being may not always be able to control pain or the outcome of the healing process, Yoga therapy teaches that each individual may overcome the resistance to pain or suffering and be more skillful at self-regulation and care regardless of health or disease conditions
